JCCC恒例の新年会が来年１月20日（日）にルネッサンスシャンバーグホテル＆コンベンションセンターで開催される。２００８年度の新年会を飾る特別ゲストは、大ヒット曲『なごり雪』で知られるイルカさんを予定。また、米国キャピトルレコード社よりデビューしたこともある名ギタリストの吉川忠英氏の友情出演、イルカさんの父・保坂俊雄氏によるサックス演奏での親子出演も予定している。

■イルカ プロフィール■
東京生まれ。女子美術大学に在学中からフォークグループを結成、74年ソロデビュー。
翌年の75年『なごり雪』が大ヒットしシンガーとしての地位を確立する。
78年長男“冬馬”を出産、2年間の休業ののち再び活動を始める。
コンサート活動を中心に毎年全国ツアーを続けている。
又、絵本でも『ちいさな空』シリーズ全4巻を出版のほか、エッセイなどもあり、母親でもあるイルカはそれら作品を通じて、「私達は、皆この地球という大きな生き物に住む、細胞同志である」というメッセージを世代を超えて、沢山の人々へ伝えている。
2004年には、日本人初の国際自然保護連合（略称：IUCN）の親善大使に任命された。 |

−男女平等の草案者の日本国憲法の誕生秘話
１、ゲスト ： ベアテ・シロタ・ゴードン女史 （Beate Sirota Gordon）
−ベアテ・シロタ・ゴードン（Beate Sirota Gordon)氏プロフィール−
１９２３年、ウィーン生まれ。５歳の時、作曲家・山田耕筰の招きで、ピアニストの父、母とともに来日。少女時代を日本で過ごす。1939年米留学卒業後、米タイム誌リサーチャーなどを経て、1945年、ＧＨＱ民政局スタッフとして再来日。22歳の若さで、日本国憲法の人権条項作成に携わり、女性の権利を確立することに尽力。日本では草案を執筆した事実が1990年代になって知られ著名となった。2005年には、記録映画『ベアテの贈りもの』が上映される。著書に「１９４５年のクリスマス」（柏書房）、「The Only Woman in the Room」など。ニューヨーク在住。

■文楽中西部公演のお知らせ
１０月上旬、１５年ぶりの「文楽」北米公演（主催：文楽協会、他、助成：文化庁、国際交流基金、他）が行われます。ここ中西部では初の本格的な文楽公演で、イリノイ大学とノースウェスタン大学が共催し、在シカゴ日本総領事館、大阪市シカゴ事務所及びイリノイ大学日本館が協力しています。日程は以下の通りです。

JCCC開発・文化・サービス部会では、恒例の「シカゴ建築ボートツアー」を下記の要領にて開催いたします。
交通の要衝として発達してきたシカゴは、世界的な建築の中心地としても100年以上にわたり発展しており、アメリカ建築家協会(AIA)が行ったアンケートでも、建築デザイン上、全米で最も素晴らしい都市に選ばれております。今回のボートツアーでは、シカゴリバー周辺から、これらの近代建築物を本部会メンバーである竹中工務店の日本人社員の方より日本語で皆様に解説頂きます。是非短いシカゴの夏の一時をご家族でお楽しみ下さいませ。

Don’t

for a tour of the Chicago Board of Trade. All attendees will be able to view
the opening of the market at 9:30 a.m. from the CBOT’s observation deck. While
visiting the agricultural and financial trading floors, attendees will listen
to an audio presentation by Orion Samuelson, on-air personality for WGN Radio,
regarding the activity on the trading floor.
Immediately
following the tour, Jack Scoville, Vice President, Price Futures Group, will
give a brief presentation on the Intro to the Futures Market.
Mr.
Scoville is a futures market analyst specializing in grains, oilseeds, and
tropical products such as coffee and sugar. He offers brokerage services to an international clientele of
agricultural producers, processors, exporters, and other professional traders.
He has been quoted by most major wire services, including Dow Jones, AP, and
Reuters. His comments have also appeared in newspapers around the world and on
radio and television. Mr. Scoville began
working in the futures industry over 20 years ago, and spent 10 years working
on the floor of the Chicago Board of Trade in various roles. He has been a
broker off the floor since then, and has been with Price Group since it was
established.
Cameras are not allowed in the Visitor Gallery and the taking of
photographs are prohibited. Business casual dress is preferred.

Mr. Belson will give a presentation on the story of Japan’s most famous
cartoon cat, how she became a global cultural phenomenon, and the inner
workings of the company that created her, Sanrio. He will also discuss
the company's illustrious founder, Shintaro Tsuji, Japan's answer to Walt
Disney. There will also be a discussion of the Japanese concept of "kawaii"
and how Kitty became the emblem of the cute movement starting in the 1970s.
In short, there will be something for businessmen, Japanophiles and those
just curious about the mysterious Hello Kitty.
Ken Belson is a business reporter for the New York Times in the Metro Section,
which takes him from the wilds of New Jersey to the tranquil shores of
Long Island. He also wrote about telecommunications in the business section
and spent three years in the Tokyo Bureau. Prior to joining The Times,
he worked for Business Week, Reuters Financial Television and Bloomberg
News, all in Japan. During his time there, he penned a book on Hello
Kitty, how Sanrio brought her to life and how Japan's cute culture nurtured
her.
Ross M. Weisman is a partner in the intellectual property practice group
in the Chicago office of Kirkland & Ellis LLP. Ross is the lead attorney

シカゴへの買い物ついでに地域貢献！
チャリティイベント「桂三枝創作落語独演会」のお知らせ
拝啓 時下益々ご清栄のこととお慶び申し上げます。
シカゴ日本商工会議所／JCCC基金では恒例のチャリティイベント「第10回・桂三枝創作落語独演会」を6月24日（日）に開催することになりました。圧倒的な存在感と巧みな話術で毎年会場を笑いの渦とし、また在米日本人にとっては久しぶりに日本文化を間近触れる貴重な体験として大変ご好評を頂いております。昨年度は三枝師匠自らが「滅多にやらない」という文化庁芸術祭大賞を受賞した創作落語「ゴルフ夜明け前」を披露し、また帰り際には三枝師匠がロビーに現れ、多くの来場者との交流を楽しみ、大変な盛り上がりとなりました。
JCCC基金は米国社会の地域貢献を目的として1991年に設立され、以後地域の学校、教育・文化関係への寄付を続けてきました。寄付は地域貢献プログラムとして毎年着実に実績を積み上げて参り、これには三枝師匠の当ファンドレイジング事業への貢献が大きな役割を果たしております。
さて、今年も例年に増して三枝師匠選りすぐりの作品を披露頂ける予定で、落語愛好家の方はもちろん、はじめて落語にふれる方でも十分お楽しみ頂ける内容となっております。シカゴエリアからだけでなく、是非近郊の州からもお買い物・観光ついでにでもお越し頂きたくご案内申し上げます。
